'MOTHER"
I hree words stand out pre-emi
nently in the English language;
Mother-Hoine-Heaven. No other
words are so tenderly spoken: no
others have such a grip upon the
human heart and life.
it
i iK'iieve mey are arranged in
logical order. Without Mother
there can lie no home in the true
sense of the word.
The home life and' the lessons
taught in the ideal home have
much to do in preparing the
heart for the Home in the here
after.
Mrs. Lydia L. Davis was born
in Indiana, June 25. 1839. and
eft us for "the house not made
with hands" April 25. 1914.
Ihe past vear in particular had
lwn one of great suffering, but
she bore it with such cheerful
ness, her best friends scarcely
realised how much she suffered.
No one knows a mother like
the ones in the home who come
in daily contact with her life.
Those who knew mother best will
bear me out in these few words
of praise. She lived for those
who loved her and that includes
all who knew her. If she ever
cast a shadow over any life I do
not know it, but I do know she
brought sunshine into many
lives. No one could come in con
tact with her without catching
some ot the sweetness or her
life. She was an ideal Christian,
an ideal Mother, an ideal friend.
She was the mother of six
children: five sons and a daugh
ter, all living: W. H. Roush, of
Enid. Okla.; Herbert C. Davis,
Woodston, Kan.; Alva M. and
James N. Davis, of Sherwood,
Ore.; Mrs. F. E. Riggs and Ar
thur U. Davis, of Hillsboro. She
also leaves two sisters in Indiana.
She leaves 21 great-grand
children, 31 grandchildren, and
a multitude ot friends.
Funeral services were conduct
ed from the United Evangelical
church, by Rev, F. E. Fisher,
assisted by Rev. V. E. Willings,
of Portland, and her tired body
was laid to rest in the Hillsboro
cemetery, under a bed of beauti
ful flowers brought by loving
hands.
We often talked of the future.
and death had no terrors for her.
For her, death had lost its sting
and the grave its victory. Her
trust in God was that of a child,
and she went to sleep with, a
smile upon her lips.
We thank God for giving us
such a mother; one whose foot
steps we can safely follow. The
influence of her pure, BWeet life
will never end, and her memory
will be cherished until we meet
again in "the sweet bye and
bye." A. U.Davis.
