Miss Inez Luce, who graduated
from the New York and Lyme
Art Studios, has an interesting
collection of paintings, which
are on exhibition at the home of
Mrs. T. H. Tongue Jr. this after
noon. There are thirty-five
paintings and nine drawings, all
of which display the splendul
talent of Miss Luce as an artist
Some of her larger pictures have
been on exhioition at 1'ortland
Her landscape and sky etforts
are largely from the West. No
table paintings among the codec
tion are:

The Moon's Struggle
The Alder Grove
Continental Lake
Evening, Baker, Ore.
The New Eddyville Road.
Among the drawings is a fine
head of H. B. Luce, father of
the artist, well known here as a
newspaper man.
The collection will he exhibited
at Fcrest Grove next week
Miss Luce has received manv
congratulations upon the excel
lence of her work.

A pretty home wedding was cele
brated Wednesday evening, Jan

mother. Mrs. Margaret Petting,
No. 89o hast Davis. Portland
when her daughter, Margaret,
was united in marriage to W il
lard Arthur Tupper. formerly of
Hillsboro, in the presence of
about fifty guests and relatives.
The house was beautifully dec
orated with palms, pink chrysan
inemums ana trailing green
vines.
The bride was charming in
w hite crepe meteor, w ith shadow
lace, and carried an arm bouquet
of Unde roses and hyacinths.
Her only ornament was a pearl
lavK'llier, the gift of the groom.
Miss Susie HafFendon, maid of
honor, was gow ned in pink crepe
meteor and point lace, and car
ried pink Kride roses.
Clifford Jeffcott officiated as
groomsman, and Miss Emma Tun
per, sister of the groom, played
the wedding march from Lohen
grin. The bride was for many
years in the office of the Fort
land Gas Co., and has a host of
friends. Ihe groom is secretary
ot the Portland Civil Service
Commission. He is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. William Tupper, of
Hillsboro. and is a favorite here.
After a short wedding trip

MRS. FRANK WAIIiEL
Mrs. Frank Waihel died at the
family home in this citv. Mon
day. Jan. 4. 1914. after an illness
covering a year. She was for
merly Miss JJertha Meier, daugh
ter of Mr. and Mrs. Wolfgang
Meier, and was born near Now.
ton, May 2, 1887. She attended
the public school in Hillsboro,
and after student davs was nnp
of the first operators in the In
dependent Telephone central
office.
She was married to Mr. Wai
bel, May 2, 1911, and they have
resided in this city ever since.
Mr. W'aibel is at present with H.
II. Emmott, Second Street. She
leaves the husband, twn little
sons, her parents, four brothers
and two sisters to Mourn her
loss. The funeral took place
Wednesday, at St. Matthews
Church, of which' she was a
member, and interment was in
the Catholic Cemetery, below
Newton.
Mrs. Waibel was a woman of
sweet disbosition. and horn her
affliction with cheerfulness and
fortitude. A large circle of
friends deplore her untimely
death.
