of his cabin, one day last week.

who went over to the Schuster
place to see about buiiur so-ne
hay. When she kmnrked and re
ceived no response she Kkcd
through the window ami saw
Schuster, with his knees touch
ing the Ih1. and with his body
suspended from a rafter.
Schuster was last seen ly Mrs.
Grossman on Tuestlay. when he
came over to pet his mail.
Coroner Barrett went to the
Schuster place. Monday, and held
an inquest, the jury briiurintf in
a verdict of self-destruction, l'he
jury nsisted of C C Nelson. ('

That Si-huster was ilerand
goes without sayinc, as he had
told Mr. Nelson, a few days a.
that a mans life, if he tivi 1
right, was 40 years, and that if
a man drank only rain water he
could commune with spirits, lie
also said that the bible was not
correctly paraphrased, and that
if it were translated properly all
would be believers, lie said he
was then revising it.
Schuster had a likely home
stead, where he had lived seven
years, and 1200 fruit trees grace
the place. He had proved up.
and had but few debts. A little
over three dollars in silver were
found on his body. One lid was
removed from the stove, as
though he were about to build a
fire, and then concluded to sui
cide. Schuster was tul'y dress
ed, excepting that he did not
have on his shoes.
A brother in Portland came
out Tuesday, and hail the re
mains removed to Portland for
interment.

Alfred Emmott, of Hillslioro,
died at the home of his son.
Homer Emmott, Sunday. Pocem
ber 14, 11)13, after an illness ex
tending over several months.
He was born in Yorkshire, Eng
land, August It!. 1S;!7. and moved
to Iowa in 1S7. He was mar
ried to Mrs. !,ydia M. Hunter, in
Iowa. Sept 23, 1S".9, and to this
union four children survive:
Homer K., Imis F., George.
Hillsboro, and Mrs. Charts Fish
er, of Tacoma. W;tsh. Three
survive who were his step-chil
dren: V. H. and vm, Hunter,
of Shelton, Wash., ami Mrs. Ida
Wehnes, of Tacoma.
He moved from Iowa to Shel
ton, Wash., in 1MJ2, later mov
ing to Tacoma, where his wife
passed away in April, 11XX. In
came to Hillsltoro in 11)07, and
made his home with his son,
Louis F., until May 1, 11)10. when
he married Mrs. Adele Anderson,
who died June 25, 11)12. Since
that date he has made hin home
with his son, Homer.
The funeral took place Tues
day, services being held at the
M. E. church, at 11:30, an.I the
remains were shipped to Tacoma,
Wash., where interment was by
the side of his wife.
Deceased was highly esteemed
by all who knew him.
Mr. and Mrs. L F. Emmott
and Mr. and Mrs. George Em
mott accompanied the remains
to lacoma.

nesday, Dec. 10, at a birthday
surprise on J. L. Kerr, at his
home on Third Street. Many
presents were received. Ihere
was singing, and music on the
violin and guitar by Messrs. Mil-
ten berger, I'eecher Jones am
George Kerr. At a late hour re
freshments were served.
Those present: Mr. and Mrs,
T. M. Kerr and family; Mr. am.
Mrs. James Kerr and family, Mr
and Mrs. Montgomery and fami
ly, Mrs. McPaniels and daugh
ters, Mrs. Ketcham and family,
Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Mr. am
Mrs. Miltenherger; Will Edy, of
Sherwood, and George Kerr, o
Goble.
After supper they were again
entertained with songs and at
late hour all departed for their
homes wishing Mr. Kerr many
more such birthdays.

was a Hillsboro caller Monday
afternoon.
