young rooster when it raises
some distance away, and they
whang away, only to find they
have killed the egg-layer. They
then leave the bird laying, as
search is possible and probable
at any time. One hunter offered
a fanner a hen. and the farmer
informed, thus costing the sports
man $25.

now building a plant at Gresham
for the manufacture of the "Bea
ver Sii" a machine that for
beautv of lines, worm drive, and
all the latest in the auto world.

land, with double track facilities.
This will reduce the time con
siderably, as the present tortuous
road eats up the minutes. The
double tracking will dispense
waiting for train-meets, which
will also bet factor in cutting
down the schedule.
Herman Bishun. of Bishup
Bros., was down from the Moun
taindale mill, ths last of ths
week, greeting his Hillsboro
friends. Herman says the plant
will ran practically all Winter.

ber business, although a trifle
slow late this Fall. He expects
a big run next year.
Jas. Loudon, of Iowa Hilt,
was in town Saturday. He re
ports a daughter born to he and
his wife. Oct 16. 1913. which
weighed 16 pounds. As Jim
stands six foot three inches, and
his wife is six test in height
the big daughter is not at all out
of proportion. Iowa Hill appears
to be ths big place for big things
this year.
Dr. W. D. Wood, of this city.
and Frank Holcomb, of Bethany,
returned the last of the week
from a big , hunt down in the
Myrtle Creek. Southern Oregon
country. They gathered in a
spike buck, and this was the ex
tent of their catch, as ths weath
er was so bad that hunting was
made miserable.
Baseball fans will be pleased
to know that Portland has won
the Pacific Coast League pennant
for 1918, even If ths team should
lose every game from now until
the close of the season. Bfg Irye
Higganbotham has again signed
for the 1914 season, he being the
first piteher to sign ep with Me
Credie.
Oscar Donelson and family
were over from Vernonia. the
last of the week, attending the
funeral of the late A. W. Donel
son. The brothers from the Esst
were unable to arrive in time,
and did not start. The fanera
took place from the M. E.
Church, Saturday afternoon, and
interment was in the local ceme
tery.
Bruce Gordon and wife, who
have mads Hillsboro their home
for over a year, departed Friday
for Malta, Montana, where Mr.
Gordon takes charge of public
works. They made many friends
while in this city, and all wish
them success in their new home.
L. R. Sells, who has been man
aging the Forest Grove and Hills
boro condensers, has resigned.
and will go over to ths Bound,
where he will embark in busi
ness. He Is succeeded by a Mr.
Jones, of Kent Washington.

ing for W. B. Jolly, who wss out
