The r xrt of thcomtnitteof
fiv appointed at the last annual
meeting of the board, was sub
mitted, in which the names of
four candidates for the otlice of
pnttiilent were prewnted. Final
action wan delayed N-ndinir the
investigation of the credentials
of some of the candidates, butlfcfex
mere seems i te no question
that the position will le filleil
within a fortnight.
The committee on credentials
among others consisted of Na-
oleon I lav is, of Aurora; Kugene
P. McCurmick. of Salem; Frank
Warren Jr. and Wm. T. Fletcher,
of Portland. The vacancies
caused by the expiration of the
terms of Stephen A. tawell. of
Pendleton, and AbUt L Mills.
of Portland, are not to be filled
until a new executive is selected.
Frank Warren was elected to
fill the vacancy caused by the
death ol his father. Frank M.
Warren, which itosilinn he has
filled until the expiration of his
father s untilled term.
Owing to the immediate neces
sity of additional funds to pay
the new faculty, a new special
committee of finance was ap-
jMimled as follows: Philip h.
I'.auer, of Salem; John K. bailey,
Forest drove; Newton Mclkiy,
Portland; W. T. Fletcher, Tort
land, and K. W. Haines. Forest
drove.

tically all of the previous faculty
members w ere retained, with the
exception of the department of
history, w hich is to tie filled by
William M. Proctor, formerly
ity Superintendent of the pub
ic schools of Forest Grove. It
is likely that upon the selection
f the new executive that the
present committwof control will
manage local affairs for a time.
his committee submitted a sat-
sfactory reinirt in w hich it was
announced that the finances were

Reliability is one of
the first things we look for when
we buy scythes and hooks. The
steel of which the blades are made
is tested by us, next we see that
the handles have that hefty feel
that makes the sythe or hook a
good tool. You are sure of them
being good when you buy here.
