house. Monday evening, was at
tended l about 160 voters. Hon.
W. N. Rartvtt was selected by
acclamation as chairman; Fred
Siegrist was chosen secretary in
the same manner, and Carl Het
del was selected as his assistant.
I'pon motion ot NVm. Nelson
it was decided that all nomina
tion must be made by ballot, and
throe tellers, W. D. Smith. Wm.
Nelson and Willis Ireland were
appointeJ.
John W. Connell placed Mayor
II. T. Barley in nomination to
succeed himself, and. there being
no opiosition, the rules wetv
suspt'iuled and he was declared
the nominee by acclamation.
Mr. Rtrrett seconded the mayor's
nomination.
Nominations for the council
were:
Kuratli and R. C Vaught were
named by acclaim - David Kurat
li placing Mr. Vaught in nomina
tion, Mr. Wiley naming Mr. Ku
ratli. This was for the first ward.
Second ward -Thos. Wilkes and
0. Jack Jr. were the nominees,
the amusing feature of the Jack
nomination boing that Andrew
Jack and C.Jack Jr. wtre run
ning against each other. It took
three haltots to decide in favor
of the .son.
Third ward The following
were voted upon: Willis Ire
land. Wm. Mahon. M. H. Steven
son. Jas. MiltenU-rger. O. B.
Gates and A. J. Roy. Ireland
and Gates withdrew, and Roy
Stevenson were nominated. Mil
tenbtrger was not present, and
Mr. Mahon had departed before
he was placet! in nomination.

A surprise party was tendered
E. S. Crawford, of near Laurel.
