The Fourth of July Committee
tells the Argus that the program
for July -J and 1 is this year to
In. the capsheaf of all similar
celebrations ever held in Hillslio-
ro. They have secured some
irreat attractions, and Arnold,
with his big shows, his steam
swing, and all his minor amuse
ment features, will be here to
amuse as well as to educate.
Many concessions have been dis
jiosed of, and it is safe to say,
with the splendid contributions
ouring into the exchecuer.
Hillsboro is to have a show of
two days duration that will
eclipse any Fourth of July dem
onstration ever held in Washing
ton County. The committee is
assured that Senator Geo. E.
Chamberlain will make the ora
tion provided he is home from
Washington, I). C, in time and
Chamberlain knows how to make
the eaule scream.
The grounds at Shute Park
have been leveled, and many con
veniences added tending to more
comfort, and the site is growing
U'tter and better each year.
Shade is better, general arrange
ments are better, and the com
mittee w ill have things in ship
shape. There will be a good
game of ball scheduled for the
two days, a tug-of-war, balloon
ascensions, and better than all,
is a big bucking broncho contest
a feature that always appeals.
il'he managers are also going to
Tiw.u? a cow-riding contest, ana
several youngsters are trying to
enter the lists for there is noth
ing so exciting as a cow-riding
contest. Ihe balloon ascension
will have an added feature, and
if Mr. Arnold can make it he ex
pects to have an aviator here,
It is just a question of prior dates
and bigger money but nothing
is too good for Hillsboro.
