A farmer living near Holbrook
was in the city last Saturday,
and while m one of the resorts
talked considerably about the
McNamara dynamiting case.
He was very bitter against the
unions, and told of all kinds of
things he would do if he had the
power. After visiting an hour
or so he started down the street
and had to pass a two-story
building. Someone in the upper
story carelessly let a 32-candle
power electric light bulb drop
from the window, and it struck
the pavement with a report like
a miniature cannon. The Hol
brook gentleman yelled like
a Commanche Indian, and made
a bee line for his horse, which
wa3 tied to the chain, and make
his getaway. He never once
looked to the rear, and is doubt
less telling his neighbors how
some one tried to dynamite him,
and how narrowly he escaped
death.
Begin now. A savings ac
count with the Hillsboro Nation
al Bank, a government institu

how your money will earn you
money and it is always safe.

A $25 doll given away this year,
as usual. Ask btaehr s tsazaar
about it.
A few weeks ago J. B. Walker,
of below Beaverton, caught a
strange specie of bird in a musk-
rat trap. He brought it to J. m.
Wall, and that gentleman asked
many ornithologists to name tne
individual, but none here could
place it. It was finally discover
ed to be a Rail, a bird well known
in the swamp regions of Virginia
and the Carolinas. It is built
like a dove, but had a beak a
oreat. deal like a snipe. It's lines

it mounted Dr. Ernest Everest,
of Cornelius, a taxidermist of no
mean ability, doing the work. It
is on exhibition at Mr. Wall's of
fice.
Remember that the Hillsboro
National Bank is alw;ays under
crnvernment suDervision, which
insures yd J the best protection.

post office employees and tne
rural mail carriers. ine pu&t
office people, however, can have
a part of the day to themselves,
while the rural man camera
must get out in the mud and de
liver belated Christmas packages.
This is one of the government
regulations-and if you live in
the country and do not give the
carrier a pleasant smile you are
passing up a genuine Santa Claus.
Tho hnvs will have New Years
for a rest day, however and
that helps some.
There is nothing more appro
