Holcomb, of West Union, was in town Friday. He and Peter Jossey wTere in to see Supt. Case about getting the Landauer farm cut into the Holcomb dis trictthe place has been thought to be in the district for years, but it was recently discovered that it was not. Prof. Wilson, of 0. A. C, was down to Hillsboro the last of the week, and visited the Calif farm, east of the city. He is looking over the district investigating the new borer that is working on apple and other fruit trees, and says they are growing to be quite a menace. The experiment station is testing to find the best remedy for the pest, and says that kerosine oil squirted into the bored places will sometimes prove efficacious. The station, how ever, has not yet recommended a panacea, but will be ready to give advice later. Peter Asp, a son-in-law of Mr. Lunow, who resides near North Plains, committeed suicide at Tillamook, Friday morning, using the carbolic acid route. Asp lived two hours after taking the poison. He and his wife had trouble for years over his drink ing proclivities, and she divorced him about nine years ago. They afterwards became rprwirilpH and lived together, but last week tney agreed to separate, she bo take the vounirer chiWrpn nnH he to takt the two elrW nnp When she was to leave on the Elmore, however, she refused t.n CO unless she was trivpn nil fnnr of the children, because they all wished to accompany the moth er. Mr. Lunow went over to Tillamnnk Saturday to see about funeral arrangements and to bring the daughter and children home.
