First Great Apple Exhibit
Half-tone cut of Hillsboro Board of Trade's Bir Apple exhibit at the Oregon State Apple Show, jfivcn
at Portland last week by the State Horticultural Society. For the first effort from Washington
County, the success of the move was gratify bur. The display captured the Northern Pacific prize
of $250 Riven by Howard Elliott, president of that railway, The entire exhibit was comprised of
about 200 boxes, and there was nothing at the show that excited more admiration. For fine produc
tion, excellent coloring, and all that oes for perfection, no display excelled. Hood Hiver, which won
the grand sweepstakes, won only because of its 1,000 boxes of 'display, and for the second season
that its apples were jfiven a hand polish that did not obtain with the Washington County exhibit.
The Washington County exhibit also won third prize on sweepstakes, thus giving our effort $275 -more
"show money" than any other exhibitor as a locality.
