I Ami Manning, who died the
last of the week, was one of the
re illy lovable characters of the
ohl school. His word was as
jnv.nl as his bond, and he had the
old-fashioned idea of honest v a
hi ,rh rvjsird for truth and honor,
ar.d a decided aversion for the
liar. When Loui Manning pass-
ed over, there was real rejrret in
the community,
There is some joy in Wall
Street for Teddy could not car
ry New York. But come to think
of it, he never did run very
stronjr in New York state-fx-
cej't when the interests were for
him as ajrainst Parker, who was
alfo close to the systems. Bat
Roosevelt will be a vital force in
American politics after Sunny
Jim Sherman shall have been
forgotten and the rotten "old
vruard" in New York shall have
sjnk into oblivion.

No matter how much trouble
Has cluttered up your life.
No odda bow great the burden,
How bitter Is the strife.
Though full your cup of anguish,
While empty Is your purse,
Tou have this consolation:
It always could be worse.
When you have mump and measles
Or any other kind
Of large, home grown diseases
To agitate your mind.
The rhaumatlz to grip you
And get you on the hip,
B glad that In addition
Tou haven't got the pip.
The bank that holds your money
iday tumble with a crash
And leave you stunned ad guessing
As to your dally hash.
A holdup man may meet you
And take your last lone cent.
Cheer up and thank the landlord,
Who hasn't raised your rent!
A railroad train may toss you
A block before you IlKht.
An auto may come whizzing
And add Its little mite,
A mule may stop to kick you,
A dog to chew your thumb.
But do not be discouraged
You might have lost your guml
