Monday. Gu larger, a 16-year
old U)y and his sister, w ho resale
northeast of Cedar Mill, chased a
large black bear with a trap on
his foot, several miles. When
they had followed P.ruin to about
200 yards of the W'm. Lay-field
place the boy shot the bear.
They then went to the house and
finding no one but Mrs. Layfield
at home, asked her to help pull
his bearship to where they could
get him loaded on a wagon. Mrs.
Layfield helped them get the
carcass to the main road, and
Gus sent home for a team and
wagon. He was taken to the
Jerger ranch, and dressed. The
ear weighed 300 pounds ard wa3
the largest ever seen in that sec

proud over his prow ess as a bear
slayer, and the little girl, who
accompanied him, is now trying
her hand at cooking bear steaks.

the big meeting and expect to
canvass for entertainment at an

aid of the people of Hillsboro in
this work and will appreciate all

though Hillsboro can afford to
have decent streets the pnnci
