D. S. Stokesbury, who has
been making rock roads in the

last week of the serious illness of
his mother back in Iowa, . and
started East to attend her bed
side.
A crew of men are at work
putting in the railway track into

to have logs here by a week or
ten days, at the outside, and the

Forest Grove declared its an
nual fair of this season, owing
to the fact that the grounds at
the race track were not com
pleted in time to get the build
ings erected. The college city
hopes to have it ready for next
season, however.
at 1 1 aa
Andrew cggiman, ot near
Cedar Mill, was in town Friday
and says that we should get to
gether for a big county fair. He
thinks that daily lectures on hor
ticulture, general farming, dairy
ing, etc., for a week, in con
junction with a fair, would be
the thing, every year.
Persons living in Hie country
and wishing to take the Daily
and Sunday Oregonian for one
year can, by paying a year in
adfance, get the Argus and an
Oregonian map, or chart, for the
one price. This offer will not
last long so get in your order
soon.
Elizabeth Baker, mother-in-law
of Mrs. C. L. Baker, died at
Sumner, Wash., Sept. 28, 1910,
aged 77 years. She leaves a hus
band and six children, one of who
is C. L. Baker, who married Miss
Araminta Humphreys, daughter
of the late 1. L). Humphreys, o
this city.
H. B. Dauchy, the Greenville
contractor, was in the city the
last two days of the fair. He
has had a busy Summer, build
ing, and wound up the season
drying hops for the Carstens and
Inkley yards. He thinks he has
a record for two floor work this
year, as he turned off 137,(XK)
pounds of dried hops inside o
ten days.
The lack of hotel facilities was
never so well demonstrated as
when the street fair was in
progress. Time and again peo
ple who wished to remain for
the night either went to Port
land or Forest Grove. Fortu
nately, the new hotel will soon
be finished and thereafter Hills
boro will be able to take care of
its visitors.
The heavy rains of Saturday
night, Sunday and Sunday night
were sufficient to put the far
mers in good humor, for plowing
can now obtain in all sections of
the county. The ground was
soaked thoroughly, and if tjhe
weather is anyways decent from
now on there will be a fine acre
age of Winter wheat which is
always a good crop in this part,
of the valley.
