The county commissioners' court
had a mooting Saturday and took
up the matter of rock hauling
for llillsltoro, Cornelius, and For
est Grove. There were but
three bidders, and the prices
offered ranged from 1U cents to
So cents for the first tpiarter of
a mile and a minimum rate of 12
cents and maximum rate of $1.10
for the sixth quarter of mile, on
continuous rocking.
The bid of Wolf Brothers was
the lowest, their bid being 12
cents per yard for the first quar-
er mile haul; IS cents per yard
for the second quarter mile haul;
2 cents for the third quarter;
27 cents for the fourth quarter;
31 cents for the fifth quarter,
and 42 cents per yard for the
sixth quarter mile. Their bid
covered hauling for Hillsboro.

F. Havnie gave a minimum of
10 cents and a maximum oi tU

Wm. Batehelder, of near (ilon
coe, was in town Monday after
noon. He is driving Wallace
Drew, one of the best roadsters
in Washington County, having
recently purchased him from
John W. Conncll.
County Treasurer Jackson and
wife and Ii. C. Vaught and fam
ily, returned Saturday evening
from a two weeks stay at Tim
ber, on the Nehalem. Mr. Jack
son and his son, Walter, of Port
land, started for a week s trip to
Newport, Monday morning.

port. Minnie Canfield, who married
J. E. Canfield in Portland, Feb.
2, VMS, asks for a divorce on the
grounds that when she wedded
Canfield she had not been di
vorced six months from her for
mer husband, William P. Steph
enson, of Clackamas County.
She says Canfield told her she
could marry without waiting the
statutory 6 months, and she be
lieved him. She now wants to
'have the Canfield marriage de
clared null and void.
Thos A. McBride, well known
all over this county, is one of the
1 Republican nominees for the Su
preme bench. Judge McBride
is one of the ablest jurists on
: the Oregon bench, and that he
will be elected goes without say
ing. The Judge was district
attorney here for many years,
and then succeeded to the judge
ship, lie is a pioneer of Oregon,
and when a boy made frequent
trips into Washington County.
