Moses McCoy, of Gales Creek,
brought in a little daughter,
aged 6 years, today, suffering
from a lacerated hand, which the
little one mangled in a feed cut
ter. Dr. Linklater amputated
two of the fingers, and was as
sisted by Dr. A. B. Bailey.

ANDREW HAUCK
Andrew Hauck, Swiss, and aged
about 84 years, a resident of
Cornelius for about 30 years,
died this week in a room at one
of the Cornelius hotels. The old
gentleman had been ill for some
time. Dr. Ernest Everest, who
has been attending the deceased
today filed a petition asking to
be appointed administrator of
the deceased, no will having
been found. In his room, se
creted in different places was
found $1,722.35 in cash. He had
funds in Portland banks, also.
Mr. Hauck was the father of
the celebrated prima donna,
Minnie Houck, whose name is
now Wartegg. She is about 53
years of age, and is very wealthy,
the result of several song tours
and a splendid voice. She re
sides in a beautiful villa at Lu
zerne, Switzerland, and is the
sole heir of the . estate. For
many years, however, she has
constantly sent funds to the aged j
father. 1

will have a hearing before Judge
Barnes on July 7, to answer the
charge of shooting at a female
deer. The act is alleged to have
been committed last Fall, at
threshing time, and deputy game
wardens Herbert Matteson and
Geo. Russell state that they have
several witnesses who will swear
to the shooting. They also give
it out that when they went up
into the Huxton section they
went up there at the solicitation
of Mr. Stowell, to look into game
violations. Mr. Stowell says he
intends fighting the case to the
end.
The weather bureau gives a
shortage of rainfall since Sep
tember of last year at 1. 12 inches.
