Herman Schulmerich. the 10
vear old son of Mr. and Mrs. J.
C. Schulnicrich, of Banks, died
Monday. Mav 2. 1910, from an
attack of diabetes. The funeral
took place at the family home
yesterday. He was a bright
iittle lad and the parents have
the sympathy of the entire com
munity and of their ' Hillsboro
friends.

Mr. Eblich. who lives at Third
Stephen D. Powell, an Oregon
pioneer of 1852, died at his home
on Railroad St., at 3 o'clock this
afternoon, succumbing to a stroke
of paralysis. He was stricken
last Fall, and has had several at
tacks since that time. The first
of the week he suffered another
stroke and grew gradually worse
until he passed away. He was
born May 11, 1833, and came to
Oregon in 1852, serving in the
Indian war. He was married,
May 23, 1&58, to Margaret Um
phlette, at Jefferson, Oregon,
and the widow and the following
children survive: Mrs. Sylvia
Tucker, of Clarkston, Wash.;
Mrs. Effie Reynolds, wife of
Frank Reynolds, Wilson Creek,
Wash.; Mrs. L. A. Long, Hills
boro; Mrs. Nellie Daniels, Napa,
Cal.; Mrs. Grace Black, widow of
Chas. Black, killed at Manhat
tan, Nev., t few weeks ago;
John Powell, of near Los An
geles, Cal, working for the Santa
Fe; and Mrs. Agatha Reynolds,
wife of G. A. Reynolds, of Wilson
Creek, Wash.
Funeral arrangements will be
announced later.
W. E. Carter, of Vancouver,
and who is interested in the
chain of C. C. stores, one of
which is managed by Mr. Gar
rett, in the Imbne Brick; frank
Hodkins, of the Vancouver Na
tional Bank; and Mrs. Conley, of
the Oregon City C. C. store, were
in the city Sunday. Mr. Carter
is very much pleased with Hills
boro and the location ot his store,
and its surroundings, here.

be held in the Wehrung hall, rn-
day evening, May 0, at 7:30
o'clock. All members and others
