Capt J. D. Merryman, for
years connected with the First
National Bank, of this city, and
now with the U. S. Customs of
fice at Portland, w as out Sunday,
a puest at the Dr. A. B. Bailey

Mrs. Wm. Jolly came out from
Portland the first of the week
and is at the Jolly hopyard farm.

departed Monday evening for
Riverside, California, where he
has bought the Riverside Messen
ger, a weekly newspaper, and
will have full charge of the pub
lication. This is the only week
ly in the city, which has a popu
lation of about 16,000. He wil
get a good financial support, and
the Argus wishes him all kinds
of success. D. W. has the news
paper business down pat from
both ends - mechanical and edi
torial and reportorial and that he
will make a go of the venture
