' We had a nic trip thus far, and
are feeling fine.
The Sruthern Pacific Co. hae
afked for right of way through
Milwaukiefor the Baverton-W ills
burg cut iff. Work has been re
sumed by the con traders on the
piers and abutments of the railroad
bridge which is to span tbe W ii
lamette, and which was stopped be
cause of high water. Within two
years, or even less time, the people
of this county will be going into
Portland by the "cut-off," and the
Fourth street line in Portland will
be a thing of the past.
F. M. Maddox, who works for
Zina Wood, west of town, met with
an accident, Monday, which may
lay him up for some days. While
splitting wood, he got hie right
hand caught in between two blocks
of wood, in some manner, badly
lacerating some of tbe finger He
was attended by Dr F. A. Bailry,
who found it necessary to uee fivf
or bix stitches to adjust the paits
Chas. Crocker, wbo lives about
two miles east of town on tbe
Farmineton road, met wilh an ac
nident last Friday, which will lay
him up for several weeks He was
engaged in hauling fir poles witb a
team, when his right leg in some
manner got underneath a pole, bad
ly lacerating and bruiBing that
member from the knee down and
causing severe pain. Dr. F. A.
Bailey was called to attend to tbe
injuries
The Firemen's ball, last Satur
day night, was a big success. One
hundred tickets were sold, and
$104 taken in as receipts. Putnam's
orchestra furnished fine music, and
the large number of dancers pres
ent enjoyed every minute of the oc
casion. A drill was given by the
fire laddite before danciog began,
which was much appreciated by
the spectators. The 11 or managers
were Henry Schmeltzer and U. G.
Gardner, who made everybody feel
at hone. The firemen are wMl
pleased with result, tbe patronage
being all that could be expected.
A family reunion occurred last
Sunday, at the residence of W. C.
JackBon, of near Glencoe, when all
of the cnildren of Mrs Lucinda L
Jackson, widow of the late UlyBses
Jackson, were present, except a
daughter, Mrs. Mary A. Carpenter,
of Htites, Idaho. A number of
grandchildren were also present.
An elogant luncheon was served at
noon, and the gueBts spent the
day very pleasantly. Mrs. Jackson
is in her 78".h year, and ei joyed
the cccafion very much. Immedi
ate relatives present were: Mr
and Mrs R. W. Crane, J. U Bar
rett, Portland; L 0 and Frank
Dersham, .! W and Ulysses Jack
son. Ida V., Myrtle and Annie
