come through, as expected, and
must have doubled on his tracks.
Sheriff Hancock is still hopeful of
catching the thief, and is leaving
no stone unturned to get his man.
The horse and buggy were found
in East Portland, the first of the
week. The horse waa tied to a
telegraph pole and bad evidently
stood there for some hours, being
first discovered late in tbe evening.

At the annual school meeting
which occurs next January, tbe dis
trict will be asked to vote bonds for
tbe purchase of ground and the
building of a new school house Tbe
district is growing rapidly in school
population, and tbe old building U
said to be taxed to its utmoet to ac
commodate the scholars. A new
building will have to come, soon,
and the directors are of the opinion
that tbe district should take steps
to provide for the interests of the
children, at the next annual meet
ing. A modern building would
cost in the neighborhood of $8,000
to $10,000.
