There is a strong txntiment in
this section fjr a couoly fair The
success of the street fair, just closed,
has awakened a feeling of pride in
our exhibitable products. Two
men, whore names are withheld at
present, both effer to take f.MX) in
stock in a county fair corporation,
and other men of means are urging
that such an orgauiz&tion be form
ed Ojr industries are no longer
infantile. We are easily the lead
ing dairy county of the state, and
other products are of the best. We
have some of the finest garden land
ia the state, and lead all other
counties in the quantity of onions
produced. Our hops, hay, wheat
and fruit sUnd high in the mar
kets, and our milling oats are at a
premium. We also have eome of
the finest bred stock in the state,
and it is being improved every
year, by additions from the outside
Washington county is everywhere
regarded as one of the most fertile
and prosperous counties in Oregon,
and there are good reasons why we
should have a county fair, where
our s-pler.did products can annually
b exhibited, not alone to gratify
local egotism, but for the further
and more general purpose of adver
tising our grand resources to the
ouiBide world, and thereby adding
to our wealth and population.

The general merchandise store of
Briggs Bros , at Dilley, was entered
Wednesday night by thieves, and
among the articles stolen wae 175
worth of jewelry. A description of
the jwelry was telephoned to Sher
iff Hancock, this morning, and
hteps have been taken to apprehend
the thieves
The bdy of Charles Olmstead
who died in Montana, Saturday
has been shipped to Forest Grove
for burial. Mr. Olmstead was
resident of Forest Grove. He went
to New York some months ago for
medical treatment, and was Beem
i gly much better and had started

Anthony John Stoel vs. Eliza
beth Stoel is the title of a suit fir
divorce filed in the circuit court
this week. The couple were mar
rifd in Mantorville, Minn., in
1880, and have two children. In
compatibility of temperament, and
other things are alleged, as cause
' for the severance of the tie that
binds.
Miss Mary Ann Simpson, for
merly of HilJsboro, now residing in
England, writes a friend in this
city, that she has purchased a home
in itngland, ana namea it - nine
boro House," in honor of Hilleboro,
Orejjon. Miss Simpson recently
tent a check for 1100 to the di
rectors of the M. E. church at this
place, to be applied to the building

Immediately after the ceremony,
the guests, numbering about sev
enty relative and friend, repaired
to the home of the bride's parents,
where a reception wa held and a
dainty luncheon served

The young couple will make
their borne in Montavilla.
