A number of our citizens went
crawfishing Sunday, with varying
luck. Anent the subject, it is
stated that the Tualatin river fur
niehee fully one-balf of all the
crawfish consumed in the Portland
market, and that the Tualatin
product is the finest known, in the
Northwest. These fresh water
crabs bring 18c per dnzqn in the
Portland market, and ued to sell
for 35c a l zio, a few years ago.
Regular fishermen use a seine, and

day.
Last ThuBday afternoon, while
Webt-ter Trump was operating the
log pulling machine at the Oregon
Nun-ery sawmill, he accidentally
got a hand in the gearing of the
michine, and stood a good show to
be drawn into the cogs and crush
ed to death. With rare presence
of mind, however, he reached with
the disengaged hand, and Bfciz:ng
the lever ehut ofT the power. The
men ab jut the mill, thon reversed
the machinery slowly, and got the
man's hand out. Mr. Trump was
brought to town, where Dr. A. B.
Bailey, aesieted by Dr. F. A. Bai
ley, amputated two of the mangled
fingers, and dressed the other part
of the wound.
How Siu, a Chinese, aged 62
years, fell from a hop bouse plat
form on the Gore estate last Satur
day, a distance of about 20 feet,
crushing bis skull, and killing him.

examination, which convinced him
that the Chinaman's death was ac
cidental, and he therefore did not
