torney, Mr. Griffith, came out to
Hilleboro Tueaday evening, lo at
tend the regular meeting of the city
council. Previouelr. however, he
aa sent a bid lo tbe council of
12-VXXJ, for the electric light and
water plant, to irclude a franchise
(or years, rates to e.agreed up-
on between tbe council and the
purchaser. Owing to the fact that
a quorum of tbe city council could
not be had Tueeday night, the
matter will go over for considera
tion at a meetine which will be
beld next Tueeday night. It is be
lieved that if tbe offer is successful,
Mr. Sykes will make tbe plant
wholly electric, and get the neces
sary power lo operate it from tbe
Oregon Electric'e wires. It is also
believed that Mr. Sykes will inter-
est local capital in the enterprise,
provided he makes the deal. Seen
Tuesday night, Mr. Sykes said he
would coins out next Tueeday
night, and be present when the bid
is opened by tbe council. He was
not in position to stale juet what
improvements would be made, in
case be secured the plant, but it
would be bis aim to give the peo-
pie tbe best possible service, under
