Geo. L. Davis. Chief Eneineer of
the P. R. c N. Co., was in the city,
aet Saturday, on bis way to points
between Hillsboro and Tillamook,
on tbe line of the survey of the
bove named road. A. J; McCabe,
contractor from Buxton westward
to a point near tbe Salmonberry,
accompanied the engineer, and the
latter will begin active work, just
as soon as men, horses and imple
ments are on tbe ground.
While in Hillsboro, Mr. McCabe
purchased a fine buggy team from
ohn Connell, and will use a buggy
biB work. He will make bis
esdqusrters at Buxton, until the
work is done. He bas sub-let the
14 miles which his contract with
tbe P. R A N. calls for, aod the
subcontractors have already as
sembled 100 Swedes, and a lot of
teams and grading material at the
beginning point of the work. More
men are coming every day, and
ben the ruiuieite number ia on
the ground, work will be pushed as
fast as men and teams can do it.
Buxton, in coneeouence of tbe re
sumption of the work, is taking on
new life, and everybody is pleased.
V ork on the Tillamook end is pro
greasing rapidly, but more men are
needed, although 150 have gone in
to the coast since Harriman gave
the order to go ahead with tbe
work.
