The resumption of work on the
T. R A X. line from HilUhoro to
Tillamook indicates that Mr. Hir
riman is anxious to get into the
cat country and that hi anxiety
is a reeult of J.J. HiH'a evident
intention to do the eame thing.
That the Harriman people are not
over friendly to the Oregon Klectric
line U evident; that the United
Railway i not now owned by the
b g Southern syndicate it aleo ap
parent The United people eay
they are going to Tillamook and
the Oregon Klectric people have in
timated the tame thing, though not
with eo much emphaeie ae the Uni
ted Railway Co. There i much
peculation about these two electric
lines and there are all kinds of
rumors about them. There aeeme,
hiwevcr, to bj a periitent rumor
that Hill is behind the United and
that he will extend this line to the
Tillamook coast. Where the Oregon
Klectric wi.l go after reaching the
Grove is at present a matter of
speculation, though many believe
it will go on to McMinnville and
other up the valley point. Rail
road men of Portland, last spring,
dropped the remark in this city
that "Hillsboro would soon be on a
transcontinental line." Whatever
that meant if anything will soon
be disclosed in the not far distant
future. This is an era of electric
road building and many people
predict that within ten years the
Willamette valley will be a net
work of electric railway systems.
Io the meantime Hillsboro is on
the map with three railways to her
credit and a good prospect for a
fourth ;
