A - BUXTON APPREC.ATKS DOT DECLINES HONOR Forest drove Grange Official Protests WILL SOT CONSIDER STATE SENATE Believea la the Provisions of the Pri mary Law The following letter from the Mas ter of the Oregon State Grange, A T. Buxton, of Forest Grove, anent the 8tate senatorial candidacy, ex plains itself: To the Voters of Washington Co. The undersigned has frequently been importuned, during the past two months, to become a candidate for the Stati Senate. I certainly have not failed to feel a deep appre elation of this entirely unsought honor and these expressions of con fidence on the part of my fellow citizens. For a number of reasons, ho ever, I have felt ii to be for tbe beet real intereHts of the county, as well as a duty which I have owed to other interests with whicb 1 am associated, to decline the honor Hence I have sought, through my friends and whenever an opportun ity baa been presented, in a quiet way, to discourage the idea. I would not feel justified in re ferring to tbe matter in a public way at this time, but for tbe fact that it has been intimated to me, from reliable sources, that there is a move on foot to call a mass con vention, as soon as tbe primaries are over, snd put into tbe field ticket in opposition to the one that may be nominated at tbe prima ries, and that an attempt is to be made to use the writer s name as candidate for the Senate, in this convention. As to the general plan of tucb a move tnent, I have nothing to say at this time, but against the use of my own name in lucb a way, I most earnestly protest. Wc have upon the statute book of tbi state a method presented for tbe nomi nation of candidates for all political of fice. If I bad thought best to become candidate for the State Senate, or for any ether office, I certainly would have felt tt incumbent on me 10 nave complied with tbe provisions of this law, and have sought to obtain tbe nomination in the regular way. Not having deemed it wise to do this, I certainlv could apt and would not consent to accept a nomina tion made in contravention to tbe pro visions of Uu law, even were sucn Domination tendered me. While (gain expressing my keen ap preciation ol tne Honor, i most, mere- fore, respectfully request that tf such movement really exists, my name be given no further consideration in con nection therewith. Respectfully, A. T. Buxton. -- Forest Grove, Ore., April 14, 1908. MONEY IN DAIRYING Six years ago, F. School berg bought a farm near Mountaindale, paying $2200 for same. There was at that time about ten acres cleared on tbe ranch; today he has 50 acres in cultivation. From the proceeds of an average of 30 cows, during the year which ended this month, he has received a total of IJ.Ulbyi After paying expenses of hauling the milk to the condenser at HillB boro, he has a profit of $2,789.91 for the year. The milk has netted him at tbe rate of $1.48.3 per hue dred pounds. During the year M Schomberg has fattened and Bold $227 worth of veal, while his cows have averaged him more than $100 per nead, per year, uis Aiarcn check from the condenser amount ed to $358 24. It will be Been that from the proceeds ot an average of 30 cows, Mr. Schomberg has much more than paid the original cost of his farm, in one year. This showB what may be done in the dairy business in the Willamette Valley, under right conditions. FAVORS PLANK ROADS TTT 1 Certain of the dairymen out north, notably in the vicinity of Maun taindale. who have long hauls to the condenser, are considering the matter of a plank road from Moun taindale to Hilleboro.
