for the death of hie wife and child,
who were killed in the wreck of the
Sheridan local, near Forest Grove,

on without the aid of the court,

administrator of the estates and
legal guardian of the child, and the
matter is now in process of probation.
The presence of Frank Rice, of
Portland, on the streets Tuesday,
recalls to mind an exciting foot
race which Frank made while
county jailer, some thirty years
ago. One evening, during the '70s,
Frank let two prisoners out in the
court house yard, for exercise.
While Frank was chopping some
stove wood, both men bolted. The
writer saw the start, but not the
finish. Frank ran one of the men
