HEADY TO BUILD IIEKE
An Argu reporter saw R. L. Don
ald in Portland thi week, and
chatted with him reirardino th
n n
roponed branch line to Hilleboro.
Mr. Donald iawell known to Iiilla-
Iwro eople aa the chief engineer of
the Oregon Klectric Line, and in
answer to a query, he stated that
work would positively begin on tbe
lilUhoro branch at tbe earliest
possible moment the weather con-
litiona would permit. The ground
ia now full of water, and grading
under preeent conditions would b
an impossibility. The Oregon Klec
tric people have all right of way
mature arranged, and there will be
nothing to interfere with the work.
once it ia started, and they, more
over, are anxiou to get the road
completed. These people do not
hire brass bands, but have a way
of doing things, and leaving tbe
result for other people to comment
upon. If we should have an early
Spring, the work will begin early.
Kel estate along the proposed line
ii already receiving an upward im
pulse, and many Pnrtlandera will
no doubt buy subuiban homes
along the line Hilleboro ought to
bent-Qt by an increase of popula
tion. That Hilleboro people will
be able to ride to Portland on trol-
ey car before the rummer ia over,
enia very probable.

R. H. Greer, of this city, who re
turned from a convention of tbe
Oregon State Groceries' Association,
held in Portland, this week, was
honored by being elected second
vice president of the Association.
Mr. Greer reports that sometime
during the past year, a book of cou

Association, which entitled the
members to participate in a draw
ing when tbe Association held its
meeting, this month. Among tbe
articles to be given away to mem
bers of tbe Association was a $2-50
electric coffee mill, and G.J. Pal
mateer, another grocer of this city,
was fortunate enough to hold the
lucky number. Last night, upon
his return from Portland, Mr.
Greer apprised Mr. Palmateer of
bis good luck, which was entirely
unexpected by the latter. Hillsbo
re seems to have been in the streak
of luck this week.

HOPMEN MEET SATURDAY
A meeting of the bop growers ts
called for next Saturday, January
25th, 1908, at the Court House,
Hillsboro, at 1 p. m., lor the pur
pose nf perfecting an organiiation
of Washington oounty growers
Conrad Krebs, of Salem, and other
grower dealers, whI be present and
talk to the meeting, Col: Harry
Haynes, of Forest Grove, was in
town, yesterday, and said he hoped
for a large attendance, on the above
date. The organization is taking
n a most satisfactory manner in
Marion county, where growers are
enthusiasts concerning the move
ment. One thing is certain, if the
growers expect to get relief from
the middlemen, they must organ
lze, and bandle their own crops
through the medium of the Asso
ciation. Hop men from all parts
of tbe county are earnestly asked
to turn out, and finish the tm
portant work of organisation.
John Peters, of Portland, was in
town yesterday.
John Horstmann, of near Come
lius, was in .town today.
J. L. Kerr attended a meeting 0:
the Beaverton Grange, yesterday
Otto Seidelman and wife, of near
