The illaHtrated lecture on "Ben
Hur,'' at the Christian church,
Monday night, waa a great Buccees,
both in the matter of the attend
ance, the lecture and vocal effort of
Mr. and Mrs. Webb. The church
was well filled, despite the rainy
night, and the receipts were quiet
satisfactory. Mr. and Mrs. Webb
proved their ability as singers, and
will henceforth be favorites before
Hilleboro audiencei.
Mies Florence Tongue, of this
city, left Tuesday for Boston, Mas
sacbusetts, where she will attend
the Boston Conservatory of music.
Mies Tongue is the possessor of a
naturally fine voice, and acting
upon the advice of competent
judges in Portland, she will culti
vate it. fche expects to spend the
winter in the East, under the beet
instruction obtainable.
Yamhill county hae an apple
fair, at McMincville. The fair be
gins today and lasts the remainder
of the week. The walnut club of
that county, will make an exhibit
at the fair. Prizes are offered for
the beet display of the leading yari
etiee of apples, while a silver cup is
hung up for the best display of
walnuts raised in that county.
Hillsboro is to have a furniture
actory. I. . Trullinger, of this
place, and J. B Trullmger, of
Sheridan, have bought a lot on
bird Street, just south of Judg
Archbold's residence, and have laid
the foundation for a furniture
factory, 40x40 feet, one story in
height.
The district Sunday school con
vention ot the Christian church
will convene in Hillbboro, Nov.
2 p. m., Rev. Phipps, Associa

The residence owned by Mr. Car
ile, a printer, in Forest Grove, was
destroyed by fire, Wednesday
