NO CAUSE FOR ALARM
A reaction of bueinws ie now up
on ua, as a result of natural causes.
The prices of article of necessity
hare gone away up, out of all rea
en. The price of labor has fol
lowed, until iU employment by the
farmer is almost out of the ques
tion, as it has gone into other chan
nels. For some time past conditions
have been unnatural. Readjustment
was due, and it is coming is here.
Crazy speculation has a limit, and
fictitious Taluee must fall. There
will not be a ruinous depression on
this coast just letting down, a
return to safe and sane conditions.
The philosophical plan is to meet
the readjustment calmly and thank
fortune that Oregon, at least, is in
a mighty good condition to with
staad the pricking of the bubble of
fictitious prices. Times may be a
little duller, but it should all re
sult in sane valuations, and real
and legitimate prosperity.
With all her splendid industries
to back her, Washington county,
and in fact the whole state, ought
not to feel the financial flurry to
any great extent. And back of all
is the Alaska country, with its mil
lions, just now coming down to the
Northwest coast for investment. In
this county, alone, we hare millions
in timber, farming, fruit, dairying,
ete., and all that is needed is to
have confidence in our resources
and in ourselves.

A SURPRISE
Miss Lizzie Atkinson, daughter of

Helvetia, formed the party. Music
games and other entertainment fo

justice. A feature of the dinner
was a cake, 18 inches in diameter,
contributed for the occasion by
Frank Waibel, of Helvetia.

Women Who Wear Well. t
It Is astonishing how great a cbanjjo a
few years of married life often tnuke. In
the appearance and disposition of many
women. The freshness, the charm, the
brilliance vanish like the bloom from a
peach which is rudely handled. Tho
matron Is only a dim shadow, a faint echo
of the charming maiden. Thern are two
reasons for this change, Ignorance and
neglect. Few young women appreciate
the shock to the system through the
change which cornes with marriage and
motherhood. Many neglect to deal with
the unpleasant pelvic drains and weak
nesses which too often come with mar
riage and motherhood, not understanding
that this secret drain Is robbing the cheek
of its freshness and tlm form of Its
fairness.
