Mr. U'ren proposes to bring the
referendum into action upon the
"Corrupt Practices Act," the bil
for which was killed by the last
Legislature. From what we have
read of the bill, it is a legislative
freak, and instead of being resur
rected, needs to have more dirt
thrown upon it.
It is estimated that the wheat
orop of the Northwest, will this
year bring in the enormous sum of
$40,000,000. This puts the farmer,
at least, in a position to say, "let
the pancake come."
Washington county has had
prosperous year, and her granaries
are full to overflowing Our farm
ers have filled the banks with their
money, and still the horn of plenty
runneth over.
If the people want President
Roosevelt for a second elective
term, as we believe they will, there
is no occasion for cheap advertising
to bring out the sentiment in his
favor.

R. L. Cate is still seriously ill,
and late this afternoon, it was re- j
ported that be was unconscious,
and rapidly failing. His physi
cians give no hope of his recovery.
Glory tickets were issued last
Tuesday to Geo. P. Frost, of Hills
fcoro, and Inez C. Shaw, of Forest
Grove ; and to August Oberst and
Minnie White, both of Middleton
It is reported that Zach Gragg
and Ed Wann, who expect to ap
ply for a saloon license in this city,
have arranged to occupy the De
Witt Smith building, on Main
street.
Second Btreet business property
reached the highest sale figure this
week, in its history. F. M. Heidel
bought 2G feet yesterday from Jesse
D. Housley, paying therefore the
sum of $75 a fiont foot. The
property is at present occupied by

Wilkes, being the owner of all of Block
Kb. 4, in Highland Addition to Hills
boro, have filed with the Recorder of the
City of Hillsboro, Oregon, my petition
praying for the vacation of all that part
of High Street lying east of Eighth
Street, and all of Eighth Street lying
