Miss Frederika Wiamer, daugh
ter of J. J. Wismer, formerly of
near Bethany, was reported danger
ously ill at her parent's home in
Albina, last Sunday, as a after ef
fect of an operation for appendici
tis. Her brothers and Bisters in

Portland Sunday, by phone.
J. H. P. Veach and sons, W. H.
and H. J. Veach, have settled in
Hillsboro within the last two
weeks. Mr. Veach, senior, has
bought the Niman plac, and the

Judge J. W. Goodin and Thos. S
Wilkes, of this city, took the after
noon train, Tuesday, for Albany,
where they went to look over the
road maps of that county, in the
interest of the proposed new road
jmaps for this county.
About 400 feet
sidewalk will be put down in Hills
boro, this fall, which will give the
town more oi tnat kind of substan
tial sidewalk than any other town
of the same population in the state.
