HiLL&iiKd aRUUJ, cc t . io nfor1 1' The football team of the fort land High School went to Forest Oroe lant Saturday and beat the Tacific University team by a score of lix to nothing. The Portland youngster put up a good game and although P. U. ia euppoeed to have the heavieet team, the visitors went at it like old timers on the gridiron. After the Portland team left the Grove a confectionery, con ducted by the Baldwins, had an officer stop the manager at the HillBboro station, alleging that some of the boys had bought ice cream and confections there, and that some of the purchases were unpaid. Manager Bruce Schumaun paid the bill, which amounted to 13 .50, rather than have trouble, al though he says he was at the depot when the trouble took place. By the time Schumann had settled, the train pulled out, and about ten of the team jumped off the train and remained over night. The youngsters went to the cloeing ball of the carnival and er joyed the evening. Assessor Wilcox has raised the assessment of the Southern Pacific to $15,000 per mile on the West Side division, running past this place. This valuation is about in consonance with other values, and ., if there is a piece of rail iu the Pa cific Northwest earning money on such a valuation it is right here. Readers of the Argus are requested to read the assessment showing in another column, as it is highly in structive, and well worth one's time for perusal. The valuation this year is the greatest in the his tory of the county, and another feature should not be overlooked and that is the timber assessment, which is about one-fourth of tbe assessment This means many dollars saved to the property hold er outside of timber lands, and the official who makes the taxroll should be commended for his work in this line.
