The PaeiBc Railway & Naviga
tion Company landed its first en
gine for the Tillamook end of the
line, the first of the week, at Bay
City, and a large crowd of Tilla
mookers went out to see the curios
ity. There were many adults who
had never before seen a locomotive,
and the incident was one long to
be remembered by the populace.

the Nehalem. They report plenty

F. L Brown, of near Laurel, was
in the city Monday, and gave aa a
reason for the Laurel married men
not coming in a week ago Sunday,

Hillfeboro went to 102 in the
ehade, Tuesday afternoon. The air
was curdled, and although for a
half hour there was a little breeze
from the north the afternoon as a
whole was very still.
Luke Stewart, a former Hillsbo
roite, and a son of the late Thoe.
Stewart, was in town Monday. He
is now residing in East Portland.
C. Viohl, of west of town, was in
yesterday consulting a physician.
He hauled in hay Monday, and
came near suffering a collapse.
Mr. and Mrs. W. N. Barrett and
son departed for Newport, Tuesday.
Richard Wiley also departed for
the same place on the same day.
Wni. Luster, formerly of Bux
ton, and who has been in Califor
nia for two years, was in the city
Tuesday.
Wm. Tipton is making arrange
ments to carry the mail on Rural
Route 2, out of this city.
The Oregon Electric is said to be
in the market for the delivery of
twenty moueana ties at Hillsboro.
Green Hale, who is cimnina on
his ranch west of town, was over to
the city I ue6day afternoon.
Ed. Mizen, who recently moved
from above Banks to 8bady Brook,
was in town Tuesday..
