It is noosense to pay too eeriou
attention to fools, eo the Argus will
pass up, in the main, the article by
the Times, of Forest Grove, last
week. The Times had nothing in
any way to refute what the Argue
said about there haviog been more
expenditure on rock road improve
ment in the vicinity of the Grove
than here iu fact we have had
nothing. The Times' mao simply
made an ass of himself that's all
and as he can't help it, it would
be folly to rave at his insane twad
die. The Argus simply told where
the various county officials came
from, and stated the facts about
money expended on roads, and the
limes comes out with a lot of
"skunk bouquet," fit only to be
found in a paper like the Sunday
Mercury. Mahomet said: "Deal
kindly with the fool, lest Allah be
displeased with you," and the Ar
gus will follow the great teacher of
the star and crescent, with the ad
vice to Forest Grove people to put
a dairy yard poultice on the Timet
editor's head until the heated term
is a matter of history.

following the dictates of reason

who nan an unsavory record as a
Pinkertonian, and who incited the
poor Molly Maguires to violence,
in Pennsylvania, years ago, was
the instrument who hatched up
story, with Orchard, to down the
miners' union. Orchard may have
killed Idaho's governor because of
private reasons; and hs may have
killed him with the idea of making
the union pay him under threat of
implicating them. Io either event,
the mine owners Fp9nt lots ol
money to break up the union by
trying to hang the Federation offi

They have spent thousands with
the tool, McPartland, only to see
twelve reasonable men turn down
their work. Borah, who blew his
heated breath for two days to con
vince the jury that they should
convict Haywood, ia himself under
indictment for attempting to de
fraud the government in land
fraud caBeB. It was a nice try to
down organized labor, but it was
far-fetched, and there is naturally
joy in the ranks of the intermoun
tain working men. It is idle for
the press prejudiced in favor of the
brutal mine owners to cry because
the jury freed Haywood, but it
wasn't in the brains and hearts of
twelve men to believe the wretch
Orchard, whose story was doubt
lees put up by the man-hunter,
McPartland, who was trying to
earn his blood money.
