Frank Griffith, of Laurel, suffer
ed a paralytic stroke this week

to the ground. He is in a serious

Laurel married men have a base
ball nine, and they are coming to
Hillsboro next Sunday to play the
Hillsboro married men. This is
the game that was to have been
played on the Fourth of July, but
which was called off because the
Hillsboro catcher was unable to
play. The Brown boys will be in
in all their strength, and the game
will be a side splitter.
The line up of the two teams is
not given because it would make
trouble in families, both at Lau
rel and Hillsboro. The game will
l)e called at 2:00 sharp. For fur

TIMBER ON TAX ROLL
With the county cruise all in ex
cept one township, Assessor Wilcox
gives the timber assesament in ex
cess of 4 billion, 331 million feet,
making a valuation in excess of
$4,334,000. Tbe remaining town
ship will run the timber values to
at lea-t 1,500,000, or at least
one-fourth of the total taxroll.
It pays to cruise, and means at
least thousands of dollars of rev
enue.

The five year old son of D. Mc
Innis, of near Farmington, got un

ran over him, injuring it seriously,

child is not fatally injured.

for many months, left this week
for Chicago. He was very eccen
tric, yet faithfol to what he under
took. When he got his first pay
check from tho P. R. & N.,

to an agreement to pay for one-half
of the west brick wall to be erected
by Dr. W. D. Wood, east of the
Tualatin Hotel, in case Mr. Wag
goner desires to build a brick and
use a part of the wall in its con
struction. This looks as though it
is only a question of time until the

The United Evangelical people
bave erected a large tent taberoa
cle on Third Street, opposite the
Christian Church, and a series ot
special meetings are being held to
large crowds. The tabernacle is a
new thing here, and the outpour
ing of spirit seems to be gratefully
accepted by the people of the little
Church on Seventh.

Edward W. Kerr, of this city, died
at the Northern Pacifio Sanitarium
in Portland, Monday, July 15.
1007, from an attack of appendici
tie. Deceased was born at La Jun
ta, Colorado, Nov. 22, 1882, and is
the son of tbe late J. K and hnza
beth Kerr, the latter of whom re
sides near Middleton. He was
married to Mibh Ida Thompson in
1902, and the widow and two small
children survive him. The moth
er and the following brothers and
Bisters survive: George, at Goble;
John, Portland; T. M., Hillsboro;
Jos. L., Middleton; Jas. F., Hills
boro; Dan Kerr, Laurel, and Chas ,
Hillsboro; Mrs. LouiBa McDaniel,
Middleton and Mrs. Abigail Mont
gomery, of near Middleton.

lodgings. Fifty Greeks landed in

Swiss of those settlements.
