hop aphis, owing to the moist
weather, but the growors here have
the pest well io hand and are
spraying in good shape. There is
no re.tson to fool "panicky" over

what fallen and that clover unout
is badly matted. Much of this,
however, will straighten and the

Arizona for a year or so, and who
was at Denver prior to that, ar
rived the first of the week for an
extended stay in Washington
County. He is a brother of J. B.
Wilkes.
Talk about natty uniforms but
tho Newberg band, which is in
town yesterday and today, playing
at the celebration, is uniformed in
very swell Euits, and created quite
a murmur of admiration among
Ilillsboro citizens the young la
dies going into rhapsodies over the
musicians. The boys are gentle
manly, and their visit to this city
is one long to bo remembered as a
feature of the reunion and calebra
tion. Buxton: Mrs. A. E. Mead, of
Green Mountain, has been seriously
ill with the measles, but is now re

getting along nicely now. There

Park, this week, and make their
final adjournment, after three days
of visit and exercises, today. Pa

an able address. On Tuesday
afternoon the Cornelius contingent
furnished the program of song and
recitation, and on Wednesday

Geo. H. Wolf, who has been log
ging over in Washington, is home
for the Fourth.
J. E. MoNamara and wife, for

land, are out for the Fourth in old
Hilltown.
J. J. Hartley, of above Banks,
was in town Tuesday, and went to
Portland yesterday.

A. H. Tanner Jr., who Is star
ing at the mill above Gaston, came
to tbe citv Mondar Afternoon, in
company with Frank Challacombe,
and tbe two rode their horses op
and down the street, one of them
nearly running down the eldest son
of L. M. Hort. Tbe young men
were arretted and the next morn
ing came back and Tanner Jr. was
fined $30 and bis companion, $10.
They deposited cash bail tbe night
on which tbey were arrested. Re
corder Bagley felt disposed to be
lenient with tbe boys, bat young
Tanner was altogether too "fresh"
the night of his arrest, and the
Court did not think he was a eub
ject for judicial generoeity. Tan
ner figured in the iand fraud cues

to have been the typewritiet who
wrote tbe fraudulent contract upon
which Senator Mitchell based a de
fense in the Federal Court.
Agent Vickerg states that be does
not think the Southern Pacific will
be troubled with car shortage this
season as heretofore, as the com
pany has made every possible effort
to get rolling stock so they can
operate in conformity with the
amount of shipping. Tbe state
commissioo, for the protection of
shipper?, has laid down a rule that
tbe agents shall keep a register of
all applicants for cars, name and
address of applicant, number of
cara wanted, when cars will be re
quired, kind and size, kind of
freight to be shipped, destination
of car or cars, when cars are fur
nished, etc. The commission will
have access to thiB booking, and
accers to the record must be given
to bona fide shippers.

D. J. Haines, State Patriotic In

day, and addressed the veterans at
Shuts Park. Mr. Haines is a Ken
tuckian, and was in Co. F, Twenty
Sixth Infantry. He is one of the
able speakers among tbej Old
Guard.

Pa., has filed a mortgage for !f60,
000 on 2,034 acres of timber land

eagee. Mr. Wheeler should "en
deavor" to get along very nicely in

D. B. Reasoner completed the
Schol's' bridge across the Tualatin,
Monday, and returned home that
evening. Travel was stopped but
