Dedication
Following ia the Historical and
financial Report to congregation
t dedication of the Reedville Pres
byterian Church, which took place
ast 8uoday.'
'On the 3rd Habbath of January,
1901, Mr. Robinson held the first
resbyterian service in this com
munity. Trior to that various de
nominations had occupied the
ground, but each one eventually
ceased and left the field destitute
of any Gospel preaching. A Sab
bath School wai sometimes main
tained, but naturally declirird as
the services were broken on. The
school house was always open for relig-
ioui service, out at time went on many
felt the need of a church building where
greater respect would be given to God'i
name and worship. In January, i9ca,
steps were taken bv Mr. Robinson to re-
cure a lot in view of building a church,
and Mr. W. M. Ladd was asked to favor
the establishment of a church and donate
lot. The condition of the community.
however, at that time was not favorable
to this project, so nothing was done until
rebruary, 1903, when the matter was
again taken up, and Mr. Ladd referred to
sir. .Martin inch, there was again de
lay and nothing was done until early
last year, when our pastor wrote to Dr.
lliil.a-Juug him to give us his personal
influence. He turned the letter over to
Dr. Holt, requesting him to take up the
matter, which be did, and finally a deed
was given by the Ladd & Reed estate for
the land upon which the church stands
)n June 20, loco, a subscription list was
circulated by the pastor, and the people
of this community very liberally sub
scribed. A meeting, of the subscribers
was called on Tulv inth. and a mmtnit.
tee was elected for building and com
pleting the house of worship, consisting
of Walter McCallum, J. Millar, James
Borwick and I). Shaw; J. B. Imlay was
eiecteu treasurer.
Through the kind providence of God
the work has been conducted we trust
to the satisfaction of the entire commun
ity, and today we come to dedicate this
work of our bands to Hitn whose pres
ence is not confined to an earthly temple,
but whose glory fills every house of Zion
erecteil to His name.
Application was made to the Presby
terian Board of Church Erection for aid
to complete this structure. And (1000
was recommended by the Presbytery of
rortiami ana granted Dy tne Board.
It was thought wise to build a fence
around the church lot, and erect sheds
and furnish the church complete as it
now is, and at tne dedication endeavor
to clear off all indebtedness.
We have received some small subscrip
tions irom rortiami. tr. Unklater, Mr.
