Port-

uesday afternoon Herman Witten-

Street committee, talking railroad
Hillsboro. Mr. Wittenberg
wanted the street committee to get
ready to extend tbe United Rail
way Franchise to the belt line on
ront Street, and eays his company
is now spending thousands, and
that as soon as they can eet rails
they will have the Portland end of
the road covered, and then will
build to Hilleboro. Swizert con
tended that the United people
could not finance their road and
hat the franchise should be re

Herman Wittenberg is the presi

Hillsboro people. He is rich, but
it takes money to build electric

ready to build at once, provided
they can get into Portland, but
they do not want to be bottled up

If theee fights keep on a few

I have been asked the question,
can contectionenes sell ice cream
on bunday under the Sunday
closing law?" For the informa
tion of the confectioneries of this
county I wish to say that I am of
tbe opinion that the Sunday law
permits the sale of ice cream and
soft drinks in connection therewith
on that day. I may also sueeest
that cbocolato confectioneries may
be included on tbe ground of being
perishable goods. I think, how
ever, that these articles named
fully cover the list excepted under
the law. John M. Wall, Deputy
District Attorney.
