Lafe Pence, who has been paying
big -wages for laborers and carpen
ters on his flume, is again in
financial straits. One note of $10,
000, with a good surety, has gone
to collection at a Portland Bauk.
His friends here hope Mr. Pence
will make another raise.
W. K. Smith, who is farming on
the T. R. Davis' ranch, north of
town, waa in Tueeday, and says
that very little seeding has been

dam, and says there was 10 inches

Geo. W. Kelley, of Vinelands,
nri who lives in a section where
fruit trees are practically free from
the San Jose scale, was in town
Tuesday.' Mr. Kelley says that all
the scale that has been seen up in
Ma action was brought in through
shipments of nursery stock, but
that they were immediately eradi
cated.
Mrs. Axel Anderson, whose bus
band died near Progress, last (Sat
urday, was up to the county seat,
Tuesday, seeking legal counsel to
id her in holding the crop that
the young man has put in on the

Hillsboro still leads for ticket sale,

point of numbers Beaverton ranks

J. O. Haines, the Beaverton
stockman, was up to the county
seat, Tuesday. Mr. Haines' says
that sheep are as high as the Port
land mountain, these days, and
that $10 il" not a high price for a
ewe and lamb.
