a week have connection with Port
land, through tbe Home Telephone
Company' system. O. G. Wilkes
started the first of the week to con
nect via tbe Cedar Mill line, and
patrons will be able to talk with
Portland telephones within a week
The Home tifople already have
4,000 phones established in Port
land 011 the West Bide and in a few
weeks connection will be made on
the West Side. The Home system
has all underground wires and
storms do not put tbe system out
of business. Ibis will prove a
great convenience to about fourteen
hundred subscribes of tbe inde
pendent lines in the county, who,
since the Columbia system sold
out, nave baa 00, i'ortland con
nection.

Mary North Edte, of this city, died
at the home of her ron. on Seventh
Street, February 5, 17, and tbe
funeral look place Wednesday, in
ter merit being in the local ceme
tery. Deceased was born in Ooam
daieua, N. Y., June 24, 1826. She
was married to Sandford Edee, in
1845. To this union were born five
children, of which three survive:

J. Walters, Portland, and M
Edee, of this city . Mrs. Edee came
to Oregon in May, 1900. and has
made her home with M. Edee since
her arrival.
