Speaking of late returns of mar riages by ministers Rev, Kerr, of Portland, this week sent to Clerk Godman a return of a marriage of ChnB. B. Fitxsimmon, of Garfield, Wash., and' Mies Kva Duley, of Tualatin, that was celebrated in December, 1901. This return was over two years late. For twelve years the Argus has noticed that ministers have been very lax in sending in returns of marriages in the county, some of them being months late, The justices of the peace as a rule are very prompt about this, as well aa the county judge, but many times a minister waits several weeks uelore he records a marriage. Catholic priests as a rule send in their re turns at once. The recent raking un in Portland has caused minis tera over the htate to awaken and the law will he more closely follow ed hereafter. There should be 1 law compelling officiating parties to make their return to the county clerk within two day after tho cer emony. i iiuiii AGAINjSTRODBLE Jailed Last Night by Sheriff Connell; Larceny Charged APPEALS TO SHERIFF CRENSHAW Will Aaow er to Circuit Court for Third Time John Tom'McXamara, of Ibis city, and wbo gained much prominence b? going to Tillamook, last Fall, where be was made a deputy sheriff under Sheriff Crenshaw, was jailed last night by Sheriff Connell. This is going some and is proof conclusive that timber is coming into its own and that at a jump.
