Oregon has wt the pace in tie
flection of United States Senator.
This week the legislature elected
on the first ballots, two senator,
the two being the plurality candi
dates of the June election. Tbit
is as it should be. The people maj
make mistakes, but the people
can correct them. The nest move
for Oregon to make is to recall a
public official when he has been
recreant to his trust. To this end
no commission should he given a
senator unless it provided his re
call in case there is betrayal of his
constituency.
V. J. Bryan visited Portland
this week and even talked to a
republican legislature in the state
of Oregon, and this, without being
insulted by the little snickersnee
newspapers with patent bowels or
proprietary medicine overcoats.
Truly, the world "do move."

Did you ever iuvesltgute to ascertain the respective lia

did, you found that Stockholders of a Corporation, how
ever rich personally, are not liable for corporate indebt
edness (deposits) except to the exteut of their unpaid
subscriptions to the Capital Stock, (except National
Hanks.) If their subscriptions are fully paid, their lia
bility for the debts and coutracts of the Corporation
ceases therefore, do not credit the corporation with
the individual wealth of its stockholders, nor confound
the property of the individuals with the corporate prop

Corporation. Ouly the property of the Corporation is
liable for its debts and contracts.
We are uot like ltaukiujj Corporations in which
Stockholders iucur no liability, except- to the amount

paid iu for its stKk, or its equivalent, the major part
of which is usually portable property, and its deposits.
But for the safety and protection of our deposits and
