W. H. Lyda, the Belling her
Bridge sawmill man, accompanied
by bis engineer, Frank Ralston,
was in town Friday evening. Mr.
Lyda is sawing about 45,000 feet of
lumber daily, and is doing a great
deal ot bridge timber sawing, for
eastern and middle west shipment.
The law provide that after seven
years the county clerk shall destroy
county warrants which havs not
been taken away. Clerk Godman
ia now running an advertisement
calling attention to a number of
county warrants that bavs been
pocketed in tbe office for seven
years. -
Prof. C. E. Bradley, of Pacific
University, and who is in the
Chair of Chemistry, say that' the
deposit on tbe Nehalem beach is
beeswax, and not a mineral sub
stance. Several Northwestern
Chemists agree with Mr. Bradley.
Tbe old theory, therefore, that a
vessel, laden with beeswax, had
sunk on the Tillamook coast, seems
the most likely. This subject ' has
been one of keen interest her for
years, for many Washington Coun
ty visitors to the beach have speci
mens of the wax in tbeir home.
