yeeterday, on a business trip. He
states that be leaves for Chicago,
Sunday, to lay in another year's
totacco supply, and that he is not
fearful that the Tobacco Trust,
which is now putting in stands in
Portland, will "get him."

F. W. Royal, assistant agent at
the Southern Pacifio, returned the
last of the week, horn Salem, where
he went to attend the funeral of
his mother, the wife of a Metho
dist minister. Mrs. Royal was
well known here 25 years ago
when her husband was a minister
of the local church.

MRS. IRA PURDIN DEAD
Forest Grove, Or., Jan. 10. Mrs.
Purdin, wife of Hon. Ira Purdin of
this city, died at her home Monday.
The funeral was held today from
the Christian church and was con
dncled by Rev. C. F. Sanderson
The interment took place at the
family cemetery on the home farm,
north weBt of town.
Mrs. Purdin bad been ill for
some time with organic heart trou
ble when the collapse came. It
was though that by bringing her to
the city the change would prove
beneficial.
She was born in Linneus, Mis
souri, May 1, 1355; in 1880 Bbe
married Ira E. Purdin and came to
Oregon and settled in Washington
county, where they have since re
sided. She leaves besides ber
husband, three children, Elmer
Edna and Homer all of Forest
Grove.

and attractive young woman, was
becomingly dressed in white, and
carried a beautiful bouqnet of car
nations. '
The ceremony was perfotuifd by
Rev. J. Whitcomb Brougher, D. D ,
pastor of the Portland First Baptist
Church, well known as "The White
Temple." A small company of the
immediate friends of the young peo
ple were present and showered
them with congratulate n3 and best
wishes. After a dan ty wedding
supper the young couple started on
a brief trip, and will ba "at home"
to tbeir friends in a few days at
Lexingtoo, Ore.

INJURED BY LOG
George Washington (Cummings)
was critically injured this morning
while working around logs lor J.
Hare, at the mill three miles
southeast of this city. A log roll
ed and struck him on the back,
pinioning him to the earth, and
his spine was seriously injured.
Dr. S. T. Linklaler was called to
attend tbe patient, and fears that
there may be internal injuries.
Cummings has a wife and several
small children .
