tems in this county are anxiously
waiting to see the Home telephone
system installed in Portland. Tte
new company is automatic, and
the sub-ways for the cables are now
being dug in the metropolis. Street
after street is torn up, aod the
trenches are soon to be ready for
the laying oi the wires. It is esti
mated that by the first of the year
the new system will be in opera
tioo, but in all likelihood it will be
eome time later. Over a thousand
phones in thia county are waiting
to get into Portland through auto
matic connection.
From this date all who buy $1
worth, or more, in my hardware
store, will get a rebate of 10 per
cent, and on purchases of between
50 cents and $1.00, a rebate of 5
per cent will be given. This ap
plies to sverything except oils and
