Koad to B'lnks
BIG KklDGES XEAKLY FINISHED
Big Pile Drivers are Doing Rapid Work
oa Bridges
If indications go for anything the
grade to Hanks will he ready for
track laying inside of thirty days.
The big pile drivers north of town
are doing rapid work and in a few
days both the bridges within a mile
and a half of town will be ready for
the timber carpenters. Tbe first
bridge has already been driven and
the bridge at the Wooly crossing is
sure to finish in a few days. It is
estimated that the cartienter work
on theee two etruc'.ure will be
completed in a fortnight.
Ioui Hose A Company, putting
in the grade on the first mile, will
lininh in at leisl two weeks and
Tbu)pon Brothers, the fust con
tractors out, and Knotts, camped
near tbe Uoy school, will finish the
line to Hanks inside thirty days if
all goes eli.
It will not require more than ten
days to lsy the track if an engine
is used, as a mile a day is nothing
big. I f steel cars are used, however,
it will take longer.
Large nuinliers have gone out to
see the pile driving, and the work
of the crew is a experience in that
line. The driver is hung on a cres
cent, and piles sre driven on a slant
as readily as the straight one.

ing the appointment of United
Circuit judge for the- District of
Oregon, and it now looks as though
Hon. T. A. McBride will be the
presidential selection. Justice Bean,
of the Supreme Court, is the other
aspirant. Jutbe McBride is judge
of the Fifth Judicial District for
Oregon, and for over 25 years he
has been connected with tbe ash-
ington county circuit court, either
in the capacity of judge or district
attornev. His cases are reversed
less iu a higher court than almost

thonty on law. 1 he Argus, as well
as many other of McBride's friends,
hope that he will get the appoint

close of a career that has brought
honor to himself.
It is not concealed that McBride
is the first choice of Senator C. W.
Fulton and this imans consider
able, as Mitchell ia convicted; and
the two representatives in Congress
are under indictment..
Not a stain attaches to the long
legal career of Hou. T. A. MoBride
and nothing but his age stands in
the way of his selection. Kven
this, no doubt, will be waived.
