HOPS OH THE RAISE
The hop market is lightly better
thU week, oainj lo the English de
mand, ami choice are now brinjj
in( 2") oenU in the local market
The e are no ealee, however, to
apeak of, the growers alt feeling
that Kng'ish conditiona are such
thtt lelter p'ieea must prevail. To
show what the English situation is,
the follow in)? it quoted from a hop
paper serosa the pond:
mop eoMnmoxs iv kncxamd
Kentieh Observer, Mar. 16 )
Than waa a alight improvement ia tha
demand from Mewera toward the clou
ot the week, but tbe iaquiry hat again
fallen off, and business ran only be
effected at tuch low prices at S toe, to
i if- per cwt Thte are. however,
comparatively lew parcela oa offer and
hnldera are very firm aa a rule. Th
formation of the" Hop Planter Syndi
cate hat now heea completed, aad it ia
uaderatood that about 6o per cent of the
ansold hope are ia the pool.
Meaera. V. H. and 1L UMav. hoo
factor, London, report:-Ther ia a very !
general oemana lor all description! of
hops at hardening rate. Consumers,
with six moat ha comumptioa ia front
of them, before another crop can be
rained, are becoming anxious to tecure
sufficient to cover their requirements.
Tbe sparsitjr of stocks points to the pro
bability that many will have serious dif
ficulty in finding what they reqaire. The
foreign merkets are advancing. Tbe
importi of hopa into Rngland from Jan
uary irt to February iSth. 1905, were
l,974 cwts. From tbe corresponding
period laat year 78,6 cwts. The ex
ports of foreign hops frooi Englaa-t
from January 1st to February 18th, 1905,
were 1.748 cwts. For the corresponding
period laat year 1 ,344 cwts. -
