E mons, Portland. Congress, 1st Dist., R. M. Vealcb, Lane. , Dairy and Food Commissicner, S. M. Pougla. Presidential electors, J. A. Jeff ries, T. H. Crawford, V. B. 1MI lard, and J. H. Smith. Joint senator, Multnomah. Washington and Columbia, J. T. Milner. THE UNION CANDIDATES. The Union candidates are worthy men, and a vote for them can hurt no man'a conscience. For Senator, Jamee H. Sewell is an ideal candi date; (or representatives, Wm Tucker, Wm. Schulmerich and Johu L. Smith, ehoulii meet the demands of all voters; for clerk, T. S. Weatherred is the best qualified candidate in the field, and every body who knows him knows that he will fill the office to the satis faction of the public For sheriff, John W. Sewell has the confidence of the public at large, and so good has been his administration that not one word has been said against him by the opposition press, unless it comes this week, when it is too lale to stand public scrutiny. . For commissioner, Wm. Hamelmann, of Dilley, a German, is a candidate tbat stands for economy and good management; for coroner, Dr. W. P. Via has filled the office hereto fore, and did it with credit to him self and the county. For school superintendent the Union candi date is a young man of excellent education, and he should be elect ed to succeed Mr. Ball. He is the man needed for the place. This means A. L. Thomas, of Wet Union, now teaching at Gaston. FASHED OVKK TUB ItlVER. Hillsboro had two deaths this week a pathfinder, Isaac Butler, known by many of our early pioneers, and a man who has filled life's mission bravely and with pa tience, doing his duty to society ful ly. He was the ripe fruit of the life tree, and was harvested at the end of a long and mellow season. It is well. The other rff ath, tbat of J. W. Morgan, a man whose genial dis position and generous nature made him thousands of friends, passing away when life should have been at its best, causes one to pause and wonder if it is worth while, after all, to too seriously take the little span of human existence. Each of these live:, just gone, will live in memory of friends for years and each will rest where the one lived his maturer life, and the other all his days from boyhood. REAL ESTATE TRANSFERS.
