that Judge Gray looked ' very

and it appears that the big trusts
find that business meant lying.
They have wilfully lied, but they
are protected in this by the big

been told that there were no trusts

a reault of the Dingley bill; then
that there were no bad trusts; and

It is a notorious fact that litigants
all over the stAte of Oregon do not
pay sufficient costs to the county
to remunera'e the actual costa of
the court machinery. This is not
as it should 1. These actual costs
should be met by litigants, and not
by tax-payers at large. No com
monwealth should resolve itself in
to an agency for the collection of
debt, and bear expenses for such
collection. The feet in the circuit
court do not begin to cover the ac
tual cost of litigation. This is a
matter that should be corrected
Let the fees be made commensurate
with the costs.
It is more than amusing to note
the wonderfully patriotic tone of
the political upstarts in congress
who are afraid they will hurt the
feelings of a trust, and, to para
phase their words, ' ruin the indus
tries of the country." You can
wager that a trust collar is around
the neck of every one of these
chaps who are so fearful that the
country will be ruined. Mean
while, the big money eaters sit
back and laugh at the pantomime
at their puppets.
Brother Hoge, of the Forest
Grove Times, is running for Mayor
ot that bailiwick. These Nebraska
newspaper men are great runners,!
and, coming from a dry country,
Hoge should unders'and running
ma dry town. The Argus anx
