Be- lieve la the Bimetallic Standard, Dear Money means Debased Property, and Profitless Anericaa Product Our Consequent loss is oar Creditors' Gala. Has ao use for Marc as A. Haaaa It is really heart breaking to note the tender sympathy that our high-tariff statesmen have for the "labor" element of America. Not of course, that they would favor anything that would give the tcrri ble corporations a benefit if it were not for the fact that high tariff gives labor lots to do for instance . V 1 . . ... iu tue coai mines at a dollar per day! These latter day high tariff philanthropists are almost as cun ning as the monopoly democrats under the leadership of Dave Hill It is very easy for them to cry at the misfortunes of lalw to long as they are selling the mourning. The party in New York, that styles itself as democratic, should get the worst bating this year that the organization ever received in that state. It was dominated by trimmer David B. Hill, who has been on all sides of all questions but the right side, and who never fails to drop a little sympathy for the poor corporations. They have nominated one Bird Coler for gov ernor. Coler is a trust stock holder and a corporation democrat who it a better Hannaite than Hanna himself. He should be beaten, and badly beaten. No real democrat in New York will vote the so-called democratic ticket on election day, Portland is in the throet of aei tation as to whether or not there shall be a wide open policy as to vice. As a matter of fact, Mayor xumamshas been "shown" that places which supported him for the mayoralty are running just aB before and a signed letter in the Oxonian, a few weeks ago was unchallenged aB to the truth of this statement. It will just be question of time until Portland will be just as before election The fact that Larry Sullivan, the most notorious rounder in the Norih End life, worked for Wil Hams, is sufficient light on the sub ject. Just as toon as it is set led as to how Williams' supporters shall divide the "graft" things will go hack to the old idea. It is to be hoped that another seaon will see a watering trough instituted in this city, that farmers may water their stock when they come to tow n to do trading, with out being compelled to go and borrow a bucketful of wa er from some faucet. As the matter now stands, Ilillsboro is strictly "back woocis, and savors of a country crossroads post office. That a 'own with a city water and light plant, doing business with farmers, and from them deriving the substance of the city should be without the common comforts for ' animals, passes understanding. Will some one take hold of this and not stop until a watering trough for the public is built? Or will the cry be "We can't havo a public water ing trough as long as i here are cows on the streets to drink the water?" Will not some one with sufficient authority and influence, push this matter to success? ., That the coyote tax law should be repealed is the general concen sus of opinion in Western Oregon. That the Willamette valley should be made to pay for scalpB of East urn Oregon coyotes iB as absurd as to expect Eastern Oregon to pay for the spraying of the Western Oregon hops to kill lice. Let the law be repealed, and, if our bunch- grass friends want to pay for scalps let eaca county pay for itt own. The counties in that region are more than "protected" by a tariff on wool, while the Willamette Valley rancher must raise his wheat and oats with no aid from the government unless, of course, you can find tome brilliant ass who can figure that a tariff on wheat it a help to an Oregon far- ,jner. By all means the scalp ' .unty lw should be repealed No senatorial election r-hould ob struct ita recall. Tradina which perpetuates this law, should trade out of power the nartv which placed the law on the books. Preshknt Roosevelt at Cincin nati, recreiary Miaw a; inicago and Senator Fairbanks at Ander son, Indiana, simultaneously an nounce that the exsisting tariff schedules must not be revised, thus demonstrating the discipline of their party when the interests of capitalists are at stake. Tele phone Register. If there were a few more states men in the republican party frank enough and candid enough to fol low the lead of Spaker Henderson President Roosevelt would not now be under the necessity of stultify ing his own convictious by an nouncing that tariff revision is not the remedy for the trust evil.- McMinnville Register. LOCAL. Geo. Butler is out from the mill beyond Phillips for a few days. Dr. W. D. Wood and Geo. Carl ton ttart in the morning for a deer hunt in the mountains toward the Nehalem. Ha thorn, of Laurel, have sold their hops at 22$ cents per pound, bar ring a portion of the Whitmore crop which was contracted last year. I Ins is the firsts-tie of this year's crop reported so far as this section is concerned. R. F. Ktasotier petitions the county court, asking for damage ill the sum of $150. alleged to have been sustained through one ol bit horse)' breaking through the deck of the long bridge nest of town, the bones of one of the horses' feel being broken. The petition wa contlnlled Judge Rood will, in a day or , mdke a decirion in lha conlesi against the will of the lateAbmr Vaughn. This caee will, no doubt, be taken to the circuit court, no matter which way it goes. and. in all probability, to the supreme court the estate is worth several housand dollars, and is situated near Thatcher, above Forest Grove H. T. Hill was in from Moun taindale latt Saturday and sayt 'hat he wants to warn Game War den Quimby that the hunting is good out there, but that he will have him arrested for trespass if be should get into his territory. H T. says that he is laying for jus such men as that officer, and that be can t find any good huntine around Mountaindale. t . - c J. W. Goodin states that if he can get the lumber delivered, he will lie through with the long bridge one mile west of town, within ten days. He has all the bents up on the Cornelius end of the structure and will soon have the floor laid, besides having torn up considerable of the old bridge on the east end He holies to get through by the time bud weather fets in at ihe very worst. Judge Tlios. A McBride has signed the order directing the sup erintendent of the penitentiary to deliver James Aiken to the sheriff of Wat hington county and he will lie brought here as soon as the or- Itr can be sent to Salem and the prisoner conveyed back. Aiken will be tried at the November term of court. There is hardly any question of hit acquittal as the rul ing of the Supreme court destroys Ihe evidence that did the work of conviction. C. E. Deichman, interttted in the Beaverton flouring mill, was in town today. He sayi that the morning pnenger out of Portland came near running over a farmer v. no was crossing Uie track near .ewiou mis imrninp, the engine nearly catching bint na his outfit right-angled the rails. Why is it that driver will aUnvs trv to make these rVsc shaves in front of a fust movinc train. The air brakes saved the team and wagon this liivm but ano'ber and it av not le mo -fortunate.
